Day 5

Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 2

As we continue to examine “discipleship,” God gives us a great example in Scripture to follow. We read in 2 Timothy 2:1–2, You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. So, through Paul, God has given us another great picture of discipleship. We see several things here in God’s Word about discipleship as we invest life to life. First, discipleship is about relationships with others – “You then, my son…Paul and Timothy had relationship with each other. They were not actually father and son, but that is how intimate the discipleship relationship was to them. Second, discipleship is about receiving the fullness of His grace – “…be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” God led Paul to remind Timothy, and us, that being a disciple of Christ means we have the fullness of His grace for each day. Third, discipleship is about reflecting Christ to others – “…and the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses…” God used Paul to remind Timothy, and us, that what we teach is Christ and His Word as we live out Christ and His Word. Fourth, discipleship is about giving responsibility to others to invest in those who are faithful followers of Christ – “… entrust these to faithful men…” God led Paul to challenge Timothy, and us, to disciple others who are pursuing Christ and His Word.

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
