Day 7

Scripture to Read: Daniel 3:24–30

In Daniel 3:24–30, God reveals how marvelously He moved on behalf of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We read how Nebuchadnezzar mentioned a fourth man in the fire. Most theologians agree that this is the pre-incarnate appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are times in the Bible when the Lord Himself appears before His incarnation in the New Testament. In John 8:56, Jesus even talked about how Abraham saw His day and was glad. There are other examples in Scripture where “the angel of the Lord” references Jesus. We know this for certain, for a great example is found in Judges 13, where the angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah and his wife, and they worshiped the angel of the Lord and offered Him a sacrifice—the angel of the Lord received the worship. An angel of God will never receive worship. God shows us this in Revelation 19:10, as John records this: “Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” The angel would not allow John to worship him. We know Christ was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then, we read in Daniel 3:28–30 how Nebuchadnezzar’s heart changed. We don’t know for certain if this was a transformational heart change for Nebuchadnezzar, but we know God used this to bless Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We must trust God, just like these three young men.

Challenge & Application

• How did God move on behalf of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego? • What can you do to learn to trust God the same way Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego trusted God?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Remember, the nation of Israel was taken captive and moved about 350 miles to the east, to Babylon. God used Daniel to write prophecies about this time when Israel had no king reigning on David’s throne. God also used Daniel and his three friends as examples of how to live for God in a pagan land. We read in Daniel 3:1, “Nebuchadnezzar the ki...

Day 2

We read in Daniel 3:2–3, “Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent word to assemble the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates and all the rulers of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3 Then the satraps, the prefects and the gover...

Day 3

The Jews, for 800 years, understood that they were not to commit idolatry. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were being forced into this circumstance legally. The people in Babylon knew they would be killed if they did not follow Nebuchadnezzar’s command, so we read in Daniel 3:7 how everyone fell down and worshipped the image Nebuchadnezz...

Day 4

As we know, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego had chosen to obey God and His Word, but it did not come without persecution. When we choose to obey God, no matter the cost, there will always be opposition. The enemy hates it when we are obedient to God and His Word. The enemy will use jealousy as a tool in the hearts of those who either do not ...

Day 5

We began to unpack what the accusers brought before Nebuchadnezzar against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We must remember that criticism is not necessarily a sign that we’re on the wrong path; it could be because we’re on the right path by choosing to walk in obedience to our Lord. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego chose, above all else, n...

Day 6

Nebuchadnezzar offered these three young men a chance to save themselves, but we read Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego’s response to king Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 3:16–18,"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire;...
