Day 4

Scripture to Read: Daniel 3:7–12

As we know, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego had chosen to obey God and His Word, but it did not come without persecution. When we choose to obey God, no matter the cost, there will always be opposition. The enemy hates it when we are obedient to God and His Word. The enemy will use jealousy as a tool in the hearts of those who either do not know the Lord or who are immature believers who get caught up in their fleshly desires. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego’s accusers were jealous because these three young men were Jews who had been taken captive but had been appointed by Nebuchadnezzar over the administration of the province of Babylon. Our Lord reminds us in 1 Peter 4:12, “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you.” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were unwilling to compromise when it came to walking in right fellowship with God. Our Lord Jesus reminds us in Matthew 7:13–14 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” People who are lost in their sins are choosing the large gate and broad road, and as Jesus said, there are a lot more on that road than on the road of obedience to Him.

Challenge & Application

• Why were the men who brought the charges against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego jealous of them? • What path had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego chosen, and why is it important for us to do the same?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Remember, the nation of Israel was taken captive and moved about 350 miles to the east, to Babylon. God used Daniel to write prophecies about this time when Israel had no king reigning on David’s throne. God also used Daniel and his three friends as examples of how to live for God in a pagan land. We read in Daniel 3:1, “Nebuchadnezzar the ki...

Day 2

We read in Daniel 3:2–3, “Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent word to assemble the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates and all the rulers of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3 Then the satraps, the prefects and the gover...

Day 3

The Jews, for 800 years, understood that they were not to commit idolatry. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were being forced into this circumstance legally. The people in Babylon knew they would be killed if they did not follow Nebuchadnezzar’s command, so we read in Daniel 3:7 how everyone fell down and worshipped the image Nebuchadnezz...

Day 5

We began to unpack what the accusers brought before Nebuchadnezzar against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We must remember that criticism is not necessarily a sign that we’re on the wrong path; it could be because we’re on the right path by choosing to walk in obedience to our Lord. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego chose, above all else, n...

Day 6

Nebuchadnezzar offered these three young men a chance to save themselves, but we read Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego’s response to king Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 3:16–18,"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire;...

Day 7

In Daniel 3:24–30, God reveals how marvelously He moved on behalf of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We read how Nebuchadnezzar mentioned a fourth man in the fire. Most theologians agree that this is the pre-incarnate appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are times in the Bible when the Lord Himself appears before His incarnation in th...
