Day 2

Scripture to Read: Daniel 3:2–6

We read in Daniel 3:2–3, “Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent word to assemble the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates and all the rulers of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3 Then the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates and all the rulers of the provinces were assembled for the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.” So, we see how Nebuchadnezzar ordered all of his administrators, about eight different offices mentioned, to assemble to worship the statue. Also, Nebuchadnezzar gave a command and had his “herald” announce that command for all in Babylon to hear in Daniel 3:4–6: “Then the herald loudly proclaimed: ‘To you the command is given, O peoples, nations and men of every language, 5 that at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe and all kinds of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up. 6 But whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire.’” The problem for every Jew in Babylon was that Nebuchadnezzar’s command completely contradicted God’s command in Exodus 20:3–6. God made it clear in Exodus 20 that His followers were never to worship anyone but Him alone. Challenge & Application

Challenge & Application

• The Jews faced a life-or-death decision with Nebuchadnezzar’s new command; so, what would you do in this situation? • How does what you’ve read so far in Daniel 3 challenge your faith to trust God?

Day 1

Remember, the nation of Israel was taken captive and moved about 350 miles to the east, to Babylon. God used Daniel to write prophecies about this time when Israel had no king reigning on David’s throne. God also used Daniel and his three friends as examples of how to live for God in a pagan land. We read in Daniel 3:1, “Nebuchadnezzar the ki...

Day 3

The Jews, for 800 years, understood that they were not to commit idolatry. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were being forced into this circumstance legally. The people in Babylon knew they would be killed if they did not follow Nebuchadnezzar’s command, so we read in Daniel 3:7 how everyone fell down and worshipped the image Nebuchadnezz...

Day 4

As we know, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego had chosen to obey God and His Word, but it did not come without persecution. When we choose to obey God, no matter the cost, there will always be opposition. The enemy hates it when we are obedient to God and His Word. The enemy will use jealousy as a tool in the hearts of those who either do not ...

Day 5

We began to unpack what the accusers brought before Nebuchadnezzar against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We must remember that criticism is not necessarily a sign that we’re on the wrong path; it could be because we’re on the right path by choosing to walk in obedience to our Lord. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego chose, above all else, n...

Day 6

Nebuchadnezzar offered these three young men a chance to save themselves, but we read Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego’s response to king Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 3:16–18,"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire;...

Day 7

In Daniel 3:24–30, God reveals how marvelously He moved on behalf of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. We read how Nebuchadnezzar mentioned a fourth man in the fire. Most theologians agree that this is the pre-incarnate appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are times in the Bible when the Lord Himself appears before His incarnation in th...
