Day 5

Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:29

Living for our Lord is hard work, but it’s also the most enjoyable and fulfilling because we are serving our Lord and He’s using us to carry out His perfect will. As God continued to use Paul to write His Word, we read in Colossians 1:29, “For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.” God had Paul write that the reason he worked so hard was to see others come to know and follow Jesus as their Lord and Savior. But notice, Paul does not write that he did this on his own strength but “according to His power, which mightily works within me.” God’s power dwells in each and every believer because He lives in every believer through His Holy Spirit. God reminds us of His mighty power in us in 2 Peter 1:3, “seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” We definitely do not lack in power, but sometimes we forget the power God has given us and therefore we shy away from things we think we can’t do or are too intimidated to do. As His children, God wants all of us to know that all the power we need to do all that He’s commanded us to do is living in us—we just need to crucify our fears, doubts, and anxiety and fully trust our Lord and what He’ll do through us as we walk in obedience to Him.

Day 1

When suffering for the cause of Christ is talked about, not many Christians jump up and say they are ready for it all. As God led Paul to write to the church in Colossae, he was actually writing this letter from a Roman prison. Paul knew what it meant to suffer for the cause of Christ, and he was willing to suffer if it meant that others woul...

Day 2

God had Paul mention “the church” in Colossians 1:24. The body of Christ is His church (Ephesians 1:22–23, Colossians 1:18) and Christ uses His church (His body) to fulfill His ministry—that is why Christ told us, as His followers, not to be surprised when we suffer. The world hated Christ, and we represent Him; therefore, the world is going ...

Day 3

Just as God called Paul, He has called every follower of Christ to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8). What God has called us to share was kept a mystery for many years. We read this in Colossians 1:26–27, “that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, 27 to whom God willed to ...

Day 4

When we consider that God chooses to use us to carry out His will each day, it is truly amazing and wonderful. God does not need us, but He chooses to invite us to be a part of His perfect plan. Part of God’s plan is that we be His witnesses, and we know that is part of His plan since Jesus told us this in Acts 1:8: “but you will receive powe...

Day 6

God had Paul share with the believers in Colossae about his struggle, as we read this in Colossians 2:1–3, “For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and a...

Day 7

There have been false teachers for thousands of years because Satan and the spiritual forces of wickedness use lost people to seek to “blind the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4). So, God had Paul write this in Colossians 2:4–5, “I s...
