Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:26–27
Just as God called Paul, He has called every follower of Christ to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8). What God has called us to share was kept a mystery for many years. We read this in Colossians 1:26–27, “that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, 27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” This mystery about when Christ would come and set His people free from the power and penalty of sin was hidden in the pages of the Old Testament. God had Peter write it this way in 1 Peter 1:10–12, “As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.” The good news is that God fully revealed Himself through Christ over 2,000 years ago, not just to His chosen nation of Israel but to the Gentiles as well. Christ is the hope for every person on the face of the earth.
