Day 6

Scripture to Read: 2 Thessalonians 2:16

God has given us so much. A great reminder of the precious gifts God has given us is in James 1:17-18 “ Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.” Note in James 1:17-18 that every good thing given, that every perfect gift is from God Almighty. The gift of physical life, the gift of eternal life, the gift of love, the gift of forgiveness, the gift of joy, the gift of peace, the gift of comfort, the gift of eternal hope, and the list goes on, are all found through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Paul, God reminds us today in 2 Thessalonians 2:16 of two of His precious gifts that He has given us. He has given us His “eternal comfort” and His “good hope by grace,” which are in Christ Jesus. We often fail to focus on God’s Truth and all of the precious gifts we have through Christ. We easily fall prey to relying on our feelings. We miss out on what God has given us because if we don’t feel loved, forgiven, comforted, peaceful, joyful, hopeful, then we think we don’t have these gifts. Let’s not miss His Truth simply because our feelings don’t line up with His Truth. His Truth always trumps our feelings.

Day 1

Giving thanks to God ought to be a regular part of our day. Every person that God has brought into our life, whether we realize it or not, has helped shape us as a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of those people God has used to encourage us, and others He has used to lovingly admonish us. Then there are those people God has used to he...

Day 2

We continue to focus on having a heart of thanks to God. God tells us in verse 13 to give thanks to Him for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Though I mentioned this yesterday, it’s worth unpacking a little more. We should be giving thanks because we and all our brothers and sisters in Christ are “beloved by our Lord.” We often forget this ...

Day 3

Let’s take one more day to focus on 2 Thessalonians 2:13 as we examine our salvation. We know God chose us for salvation, but how is salvation even possible? God saves us from our sin through His sanctification by the power of His Holy Spirit in us because of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Sanctification is God’s action of setting ...

Day 4

God called us to Himself because of His great love for us in the first place. God has always loved us, but for some reason, we fall into the trap of thinking we have to do something to earn His love and forgiveness. God wants us to know that His love is abundant and that He loves us eternally because of His rich mercy. God says it this way in...

Day 5

God tells us throughout His Word to “stand firm.” As God led Paul to write to the believers in Thessalonica, God is also strongly encouraging us with the same truth that we must “stand firm.” Through Paul, God also tells us to hold tight to His Truth, which we have been taught. God and His Word are our foundation for each day of our lives, an...

Day 7

As we finish out this week in 2 Thessalonians 2, we find God using Paul to remind us where our comfort and strength come from. Remember on Day 5 of our devotions this week that we unpacked Ephesians 6:10-17. God tells us in Ephesians 6:10 to be strong in Him and in the strength of His might. If we try to rely on our strength we will fail and ...
