Day 1

Scripture to Read: 2 Thessalonians 2:13

Giving thanks to God ought to be a regular part of our day. Every person that God has brought into our life, whether we realize it or not, has helped shape us as a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of those people God has used to encourage us, and others He has used to lovingly admonish us. Then there are those people God has used to help us in times of weakness, and then there are the precious ones who have shown us great patience in our time of need. As God’s Word says today in 2 Thessalonians 2:13, “we should always give thanks to God” for each of them. My prayer time starts every morning as soon as my alarm goes off. I begin each day thanking God for everyone and everything He has richly given me. God deserves our daily thanks, not just when we pray over a meal, but literally for all our rich blessings. I love to thank our Lord every morning for my wife, my sons, my daughter-in-law, my extended family, for the job He’s given me to serve Him and provide for my family, for clean water, for a water heater that warms the water I get to wash in, for all of the appliances that work so well, for the vehicle that gets me from one location to the next, for the clothes that fill my closet and drawers, for the house I get to live in, and on and on. So again, let me say, God deserves our daily thanks.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about your attitude of thankfulness? How will you improve your thankful attitude? 2. Take a few minutes and make a list of everything you need to thank God for each day, then spend some time thanking Him.

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

We continue to focus on having a heart of thanks to God. God tells us in verse 13 to give thanks to Him for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Though I mentioned this yesterday, it’s worth unpacking a little more. We should be giving thanks because we and all our brothers and sisters in Christ are “beloved by our Lord.” We often forget this ...

Day 3

Let’s take one more day to focus on 2 Thessalonians 2:13 as we examine our salvation. We know God chose us for salvation, but how is salvation even possible? God saves us from our sin through His sanctification by the power of His Holy Spirit in us because of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Sanctification is God’s action of setting ...

Day 4

God called us to Himself because of His great love for us in the first place. God has always loved us, but for some reason, we fall into the trap of thinking we have to do something to earn His love and forgiveness. God wants us to know that His love is abundant and that He loves us eternally because of His rich mercy. God says it this way in...

Day 5

God tells us throughout His Word to “stand firm.” As God led Paul to write to the believers in Thessalonica, God is also strongly encouraging us with the same truth that we must “stand firm.” Through Paul, God also tells us to hold tight to His Truth, which we have been taught. God and His Word are our foundation for each day of our lives, an...

Day 6

God has given us so much. A great reminder of the precious gifts God has given us is in James 1:17-18 “ Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we woul...

Day 7

As we finish out this week in 2 Thessalonians 2, we find God using Paul to remind us where our comfort and strength come from. Remember on Day 5 of our devotions this week that we unpacked Ephesians 6:10-17. God tells us in Ephesians 6:10 to be strong in Him and in the strength of His might. If we try to rely on our strength we will fail and ...
