Day 5

Scripture to Read: 2 Peter 1:5–9

Since God has given us sooooooo much, today in 2 Peter 1:5–9, He now tells us what WE MUST DO each day. We must apply with all diligence, which means we must do our spiritual workout every day (Philippians 2:12). Now, we must be careful here. It’s not us, but it’s through God’s Spirit in us as we submit to the fullness of His power and authority in our lives. In ourselves, we can accomplish NOTHING (John 15:5). But, through being strong in and through Him, we can do ALL that God commands us to do each day. By our faith in God (which means clinging to, trusting in, and relying on God) and His Word, we are to walk in and put on the seven characteristics of God’s Spirit listed in 2 Peter 1:5–7. God tells us we must walk in these seven characteristics every day and here’s why: In 2 Peter 1:8, God says that as we walk in these seven characteristics, we will be useful and fruitful in knowing Christ even more. So, God tells us again that our life is about knowing our Lord Jesus Christ and imitating Him (Matthew 5:48, Luke 6:36, Ephesians 5:1). So, being like our Lord is the goal. BUT, any believer who fails to apply these seven characteristics has chosen to be shortsighted (shutting their eyes to God’s Truth) or blind to God’s Truth. God says they’ve forgotten that He has cleansed them from their sins (Colossians 1:13–14 and 2:13–14).

Challenge & Application

· From what we learned today, what must we do each day and how will you choose to do it according to 2 Peter 1:5–7? · How would you say you are being useful and fruitful in deepening your intimacy with Christ each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We begin our walk through 2 Peter this week. God had Peter start the letter of 2 Peter the same way all letters were created during his time. The writer gives an introduction of themselves. In 2 Peter 1:1, Peter describes himself as a“ slave” of Christ. Also, Peter was NOT ashamed to let everyone know he was a slave of Christ. Peter also ment...

Day 2

As we learned yesterday, God has given us the incredible gift of faith so we can trust Him completely. God had Peter continue in his introduction in 2 Peter 1:2 to focus on God’s grace and peace being multiplied to us as we deepen our intimacy with Him through our Lord Jesus Christ. It’s excellent news to know that God’s grace and peace are a...

Day 3

God is going to rock our lives today as we unpack 2 Peter 1:3–4. As we see in 2 Peter 1:3–4, God, through His divine power (His Holy Spirit living in us), has given us EVERYTHING we need to live this life fully for Him and walk in a godly manner worthy of Him. All of this happens—and we said this already, but it must be repeated—as we know Hi...

Day 4

Yesterday we began to unpack the deep Truth God has given us in 2 Peter 1:3–4. Today we continue to see all God has given us. Knowing we have ALL we need for life and living godly protects us from falling into the sin of being worldly minded (Matthew 16:23; Colossians 3:1–2, Ephesians 4:23, 2 Corinthians 10:3–5, Romans 12:2). God continues in...

Day 6

God continues to challenge all believers as He had Peter write 2 Peter 1:10–11. Since 2 Peter 1:10 starts with the word, “Therefore,” as we all know, we need to ask ourselves, “What’s the ‘therefore ’there for?” The answer: because God gives us EVERYTHING we need according to 2 Peter 1:3–4 and, as we apply these seven characteristics in 2 Pet...

Day 7

As we read 1 John 2:28, we saw that some of God’s children come into His presence but “shrink away from Him in shame” because of their disobedience while living here. They are saved, but there’s little fruit of Christ in them because they’ve chosen to live “fleshly” here. God clarifies this again in 1 Corinthians 3:15–16. God desires that we ...
