Scripture to Read: 2 Peter 1:1
We begin our walk through 2 Peter this week. God had Peter start the letter of 2 Peter the same way all letters were created during his time. The writer gives an introduction of themselves. In 2 Peter 1:1, Peter describes himself as a“ slave” of Christ. Also, Peter was NOT ashamed to let everyone know he was a slave of Christ. Peter also mentions that he was an Apostle of Christ (meaning – Peter had seen our Lord after His resurrection from the dead). Then God, through Peter, made sure everyone knew who this letter was for, which was EVERYONE who had received the same precious faith Peter and all other Christians had received. We must realize that the faith we have is a gift from God. God gives everyone the faith they need to trust in Him. We know this because God tells us this in Romans 12:3 …as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. So, the faith each person has been given is in us to trust God in all areas of our lives. But far too many people place their faith in this world and the stuff of this world, and they miss God completely. According to God’s Word, God gave our faith to us because of the righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the righteousness of our King, our faith was freely given so that everyone who places their faith in Christ is made completely righteous through Christ. God wants everyone to put their faith in Christ alone, but the choice belongs to each person.
Challenge & Application
· As Christians, we are slaves of Christ and not slaves of the devil (2 Timothy 2:26), so how are you making this evident to others?
· How are you daily trusting Christ, in all areas of your life (spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, financially, and sexually)?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
