Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 6:18-19

From yesterday’s devotion, we know that God specifically instructs the wealthy believers not to trust in their riches but to trust in Him completely. Today God furthers His instruction to wealthy believers and tells them to be rich in good works. The instruction from God to be wealthy in good works applies to all Christians because all of us, according to Ephesians 2:10, understand that “…we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” So, the good works God has for us to do, we must pursue and carry out each day. But God goes on in 1 Timothy 6:18 and instructs the rich believers to use their wealth by sharing it and being generous with this wealth. God did not give us the wealth of this life to hoard and misuse it and simply spend it on our selfish pleasures. God gives a warning, through James, to the rich in James 5:1-6. Also, Jesus tells us not to store up treasures here in Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Wealthy believers and all other believers must store up treasures in heaven through the good works God has called us all to fulfill.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about storing up wealth in this life? 2. How are you walking in the good works God has for you to do and thereby storing up treasures in heaven?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Through Paul, God tells Timothy (and us) to “fight the good fight of fai...
