Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 6:11

Yesterday we began to examine 1 Timothy 6:11 and all the attributes God has given us to pursue. We must pursue “godliness.” According to dictionary.com, the definition for “godliness” is “the quality or practice of conforming to the laws and wishes of God; devoutness and moral uprightness.” To live godly means to walk in obedience to our Lord and His Word. We must pursue our fellowship with our Lord and pursue being filled with His Word to live in godliness each day. We must also pursue “faith” and “love.” Faith is a gift from God, and we know this because God tells us in Romans 12:3 that He has given each of us a measure of faith. Putting our faith into action means we cling to God, trust in Him, and rely on Him no matter what our circumstances might be. To pursue “love” means to fulfill the “Great Commandment,” to love God with all we are, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Pursuing faith and love is a choice and in making the right choice, we see the fruit of God’s faith and love through us. God also wants us to pursue “perseverance” and “gentleness.” According to dictionary.com, the definition of “perseverance” is a “steady persistence in a course of action, in spite of difficulties or discouragement.” God’s perseverance produces His perfection in us (James 1:2-4), but we must persevere by choice. Gentleness means we are not violent, but we treat others the way Christ treats us. All of these attributes glorify God and transform us to look more like Him.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about all of the attributes you must pursue each day? 2. How are you pursuing all of the attributes laid out by God in His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
