Day 3

Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 6:12

There are battles that we face daily as Christians. We are in a fight, waging war “against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places,” as God makes clear in Ephesians 6:12. Through Paul, God tells Timothy (and us) to “fight the good fight of faith” because we are in a battle against the evil in this world and the heavenly places. To be able to fight well we have to go into battle prepared. As we saw in the first two devotions, in 1 Timothy 6:11, the attributes God tells us to pursue are part of fighting the good fight of faith. God also tells us to hang on tightly to the eternal life to which He has called us. To hold tightly to the eternal life God has given us is to know without a doubt that God has saved us, that we can never lose our salvation, and that Christ’s death and resurrection have set us free from the power and penalty of sin. Fighting the good fight also includes proclaiming to others what God has done for us through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have become a witness for our King and His glory. Part of being a witness is proclaiming what He has done for us and then also living our lives in a manner that is worthy of Him. Fighting the good fight of faith is a daily fight, but it is worth it because we know our King ultimately wins the battle.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about “fighting the good fight of faith?” 2. How are you preparing for battle each day and fighting the good fight of faith? (Read also Ephesians 6:10-18)

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
