Day 1

Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 6:11

As we have been walking through 1 Timothy, God has taught us so much about our walk with Him. This week we close out 1 Timothy and, of course, God has some great Truth for us this week. Today and tomorrow, we unpack 1 Timothy 6:11. God begins by reminding us to “flee from these things.” The “things” that God is talking about are what we covered last week in 1 Timothy 6:1-10. We are to constantly flee from: false doctrine, envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, a depraved mind, constant friction between us and others, seeking to get rich, and loving money. What we must love about our Heavenly Father is that He never tells us to flee from something without also leading us to passionately pursue something else. We read in 1 Timothy 6:11 that we are to pursue the following: “righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.” All of these character traits are only possible through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. We are given these character traits through the Holy Spirit who lives in us. So, to pursue righteousness means we choose to live in the goodness God has given us daily. We choose to become an imitator of God because we are His beloved child (Ephesians 5:1). We know we can make this choice to be righteous because His Spirit has given us everything we need to be able to walk in righteousness (2 Peter 1:3-4). Tomorrow we will unpack the other character traits God lays out for us to walk in.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about what to flee from and what to pursue? 2. How are you currently fleeing from the “things” God tells us to flee from and how are you pursuing righteousness?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
