Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 6:6
Our love for God and His Word is evident in the way we pursue our fellowship with God each day and the way we pursue His Word each day as well. Through Paul, God tells Timothy today (and us) that great gain comes from godliness and from being completely content in our Lord. Godliness is a choice we must make to live according to God’s Word. God tells us that our lives must look different than the lost world around us. God lays out for us in Romans 6:1-14, Galatians 5:13-24, Ephesians 4:17-32, Colossians 3:1-17, and many other Scriptures, specific ways that we must put to death the deeds of our flesh. In these same Scriptures, God tells us how to put on godliness and when we do this we become an imitator of our Lord - Ephesians 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. Being content in this life is not possible apart from a vibrant relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. But even walking in contentment with our Lord is something we must choose by filling our hearts and minds with God’s Truth and not allowing our minds to be filled with the garbage of this world. In Colossians 3:15-16 and Philippians 4:6-8, God tells us how to experience His peace and contentment in this life. We must choose to obey.
