Day 7

Scripture to Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:11

As we finish another week of devotions, we’ve learned this week that Christ’s return is imminent. We’ve learned that we must walk in the Light Christ has placed in us, through His Holy Spirit. We’ve been challenged to stay alert and to live each day as if Christ could come back anytime, because He can. Now, today we’re reminded that we need to encourage one another. God has called us to be encouragers. To be an encourager means we need to guard our words each day. God desires us to give away His grace through our words. God tells us in Ephesians 4:29, “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” Then God tells us again in Colossians 4:6, “Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.” God desires us to encourage each other by allowing our words to give others His precious grace. God also tells us that we need to build up each other. To build others up means we help improve each other intellectually and spiritually. It’s the perfect picture of making disciples of Christ. As we invest life to life in others, we help each other grow in a more in-depth knowledge of our Lord and His Word. Let’s be the encouragers and builders Christ has called us to be every day.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about being an encourager and a builder? 2. What changes need to take place for you to grow as an encourager and a builder?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God created us because He desires fellowship with us. God does not need us, but He chose us even before we were created (Ephesians 1:4). God has always loved us (Ephesians 2:4-5), and His plan has always been to redeem us from the curse of sin and death. As far as when Christ will return for His bride, only God the Father knows (Matthew 24:36...

Day 4

As we continue to consider the return of our Lord Jesus Christ for all believers (His bride), we must focus special attention on our daily fellowship with our Lord and being in His Word. We saw in yesterday’s devotion that we, as believers, are no longer in darkness because Christ has rescued us and redeemed us from the darkness as seen in Co...

Day 5

Today we read in 1 Thessalonians 5:8 a quick reminder that we, as believers, are of the day. So, let’s take a look at Ephesians 5:8-9 in the New Living Translation. Even though it is not a literal translation but a paraphrase of God’s Word, it reads clearly on what we are to do as believers, since we are of the day. “For once you were full of...

Day 6

When we take into account the fullness of God’s mercy, grace, love, forgiveness, and all of the other precious treasures He gives us as His children, it is too wonderful to truly comprehend. Today we read that God the Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ, chose to save (to rescue) us from His anger (wrath). God’s wrath is what every human be...
