Scripture to Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5
God Almighty has filled every believer with His wonderful Light for He has given us His Holy Spirit. We know God dwells in us through His Holy Spirit because God tells us this in His Word in John 14:23; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Galatians 4:6; 2 Timothy 1:14; 1 John 3:24; 1 John 4:13, to name a few. Because Christ lives in us, through His Spirit, we are no longer to live in darkness, nor are we in darkness. We, as believers in Christ, have been given His Light for Christ is Light as clearly noted in John 1: 4-5, 7-9; John 3:19-21; John 8:12; John 9:5; John 12:35-36, 46; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Ephesians 5:8-9. We must also be living our lives in great expectation of the return of our Lord and King. Because God has sealed us (Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 4:30) for Himself, through His Spirit, we should not be surprised when Christ does return for His church (His bride, all believers). If we’re not careful, we can be lulled into a worldly numbness instead of living as if Christ could return today. God wants us to be passionately pursuing our daily fellowship with Him and His Word so that we are looking forward to our Lord’s return (Titus 2:12-13; Hebrews 9:28; 2 Peter 3:11-12; Jude 1:20-21). We are not in darkness, so let’s NOT live in the darkness either.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about darkness and light?
2. Who will you share God’s truth with this week who is still walking in darkness?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
