Day 2

Scripture to Read: Day 2

Being a born-again follower of our Lord Jesus Christ gives us more than our minds can even comprehend this side of heaven. But as God used Peter to write His Word, we find in 1 Peter 1:4 that our inheritance, which we have through our relationship with Christ, is as God’s Word describes, “imperishable” (beyond the reach of change), “undefiled,” “will not fade away (unfading),” “reserved in heaven” for every believer in Christ. As we consider this world and all it seeks to offer us, we cannot find anything that is imperishable, undefiled, unfading, and absolutely guaranteed for all eternity. But we seem to hunger for what this world offers and even though none of it lasts, we still yearn for more. Our flesh, the shell we dwell in, will always hunger for the stuff of this world. God warns us to put to death the flesh, and to walk in the Spirit so that the things of this world do not rule our lives (Romans 6:12-14; Galatians 5:16-17; 1 John 2:15-17). Since our inheritance in Christ is absolutely perfect and everlasting, we need to seek our Lord and His Word. We have to choose to change our mindset so that the stuff of this world does not distract us from the wonderful treasure we have in Christ (Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 4:23; Colossians 3:1-4). One day our Lord will call us home and we will fully enjoy Him and the inheritance we have in Him.

Challenge & Application

1. As you consider what you hunger for, do you hunger for your fellowship with Christ and His Word or more for the world? Why? 2. What will you do to begin to seek God and His Word more and to seek less what the world offers you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
