Scripture to Read: Matthew 11:1-15 & Luke 7:18-28
When the world considers greatness among men, there are many whom they will list. Here are just a few: Martin Luther King, Jr., Socrates, Plato, Aristotle; Kings, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln; Martin Luther; Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Dickens, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, van Gogh, Picasso; da Vinci, Galileo, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Orville & Wilbur Wright, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, Neil Armstrong. Whether we agree that these men were great or not, doesn’t matter when we consider what our Lord Jesus Christ deems as great. When our Lord was describing John the Baptist to His listeners, He said, “there is no one greater than John” that had been born of a woman. Why would John be given such a high honor? He was the last of the Old Testament prophets; he was the messenger, announcing the coming of the Messiah. Compared to those in the kingdom of God, John the Baptist is not greater than even the least of one of those in God’s family. How was this possible? Because those in God’s family are His children and friends of The King! In this world, there will be those who are considered great. To truly be great is being a child of the King of kings and Lord of lords. In God’s eyes, that makes us royalty as well, and this position in Christ will never end. We need to make sure we measure who is truly great by God’s standard and not by what the world sees as great.
Challenge & Application
Do you see yourself through your Heavenly Father’s eyes? Do you live your life knowing you are part of royalty, knowing you belong to the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords? Who will you share your King with today?
