Scripture to Read: Romans 8:14
This week, we will only focus on four verses in Romans 8. Though we are only examining four verses, we will see that God’s powerful Truth will speak volumes to each one of us. Last week, God spoke to us about our “flesh” and His Spirit dwelling in us. We continue in that same arena, but God gives us more about our adoption through Christ our King. Now, as followers of Christ, we must choose to abide in His Truth every day. To abide in God’s Truth means we live His Truth and not just flippantly read it and then forget what we read a few minutes later. As we read Romans 8:14, God talks about everyone whom His Holy Spirit is willingly leading. Of course, only believers have God’s Holy Spirit in them, but not all believers are willingly being led by His Spirit. As we discussed last week, many believers choose to walk in their “fleshly desires” instead of surrendering to God’s Spirit in them. The result of living out our “fleshly desires” still results in death. Though we are saved, forgiven, and completely cleansed of all our sins through Christ our Lord, when we sin, we kill our sweet fellowship with our Lord because we have turned our backs on Him. So, we must repent (turn away from our flesh and turn back to God), confess our sins, and thank our Lord for His incredible forgiveness, which we have through Christ (1 John 1:9). When we do this, we are choosing to be led by His Holy Spirit in us.
Challenge & Application
· What did you learn today about being led by God’s Holy Spirit and living “fleshly?”
· How are you staying in right fellowship with our Lord, and what are you doing when you get out of fellowship with Him?
