Scripture to Read: Romans 7:12
We have been discovering this week that God’s Word is perfect and that His Word reveals to us our sinfulness but does not cause our sinfulness. Today, God confirms that His Word is perfect. We read in Romans 7:12, So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. God’s Word is holy, which means His Word is perfect and not like any other word written by humans. So God tells us in Hebrew 4:12, For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. As a sword, God’s Word cuts through the garbage in our hearts and shows us what must be crucified in our lives. Because God’s Word is holy, God uses His Word to perfect His holiness within us. God’s Word is righteous, and God uses His Word to guide us to live holy and righteous lives that honor Him. God tells us in Ephesians 6:14, Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness. God’s righteousness in us only comes from our relationship with Christ. But God also uses His Word to guard our hearts, as the breastplate, so that we walk in His righteousness daily. God’s Word is good, a great reminder that apart from Christ, there is nothing good in us (Romans 3:10–12). His Word is what we need every day.
