Day 1

Scripture to Read: Romans 7:7

When we finished our devotions on Romans 7:1–6, we learned how God made it clear, in Romans 7:6, that we’ve been set free from the bondage we had been placed in through His Law. Again, God’s Law did not cause our bondage; we became aware of our bondage to sin through God’s Law. But God had to make sure no one thought that His Law was what caused them to sin. So, God had Paul write in Romans 7:7, What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.” God leaves us with no doubt that His Law points out our sin, but it does not cause our sin. When we see a sign that says, “Wet paint, do NOT touch,” the sign does not cause us to sin; it reveals to us the ugliness of our flesh in that we want to touch it because the sign tells us not to touch it. Our fleshly nature is rebellious, selfish, and always wants its way. God’s Law points out how sinful our fleshly nature already is. So, no one can say that God’s Law is sinful, but that God’s Law shows us how sinful we already are. The truth of God’s Word always points us to Christ, showing us that we must surrender to Him to be set free from our sin.

Challenge & Application

How has God’s Law pointed out to you the areas of your life that you still need to crucify each day? How will you use what God taught you today to share with someone their need for Christ in their life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Now, it sounds like God’s Law actually produces in us our sinfu...

Today, we read in Romans 7:9, I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died. As we read Romans 7:9, it actually sounds like Paul had “life” apart from...

Day 6

We have discussed this week how God’s Word does not cause us to sin but points out how sinful we are. Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through th...
