Day 4

Scripture to Read: Romans 7:4

God loves to give us Good News because that is what His Gospel is, Good News. As we have been walking through Romans 7 this week, we have taken it verse by verse, leaving us with a few unanswered questions. But today, God gives us the answer we’ve been looking for here in Romans 7:4, Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. Remember that God used the marriage relationship as an example of a couple being united until death alone separates them. Now God is saying that before we surrendered to Christ, we were united to God’s Law and held accountable by God’s Law, which we could never fulfill. But we had to die to the Law to be united with Christ. Through Christ, the Law of God has been completely fulfilled in us because Christ fulfilled God’s Law on our behalf. So, we must understand that we, as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, died to the power of the Law when we died with Christ. We died with Christ when we surrendered to Him as Lord. And now, we are united with God the Father through His Holy Spirit who raised Christ from the dead. Because Christ has been raised, we also have been raised to life through Christ. As a result, we now live producing a harvest through the good works God has for us to do (Ephesians 2:10, Titus 2:14, Titus 3:14).

Day 2

Yesterday, we began to see that the Law brings nothing but death. It’s not that God’s Law is bad, for we know that is not true. The Law brings death because it opens our eyes to the reality that we are sinners apart from Christ. The Law also shows us that we cannot fully walk in it daily (James 2:10). But God never leaves us hanging with nowh...

Day 3

Today, we further examine why God used the covenant of marriage and the death of a spouse to help us know what we’ve been set free from through death. God continues in Romans 7:3, So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that ...

Day 5

We all have days when we feel like we are under significant attack by the spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). We are in a spiritual battlefield every day, whether we feel like it or not. Still, some days the battlefield feels more challenging than others. Today, God reminds us in Romans 7:5, For while we were in the flesh, the sinf...

Day 6

We began to see yesterday how our sinful passions ruled us prior to us surrendering to Christ. Even though we have surrendered to Christ, there are still days that we feel like our sinful passions still rule over us. Hopefully, the Scriptures posted yesterday were helpful in knowing what we must do to overcome our sinful passions. The truths ...

Day 7

We finish this week with more Good News from God and His Word. Before we get to the Good News, we have seen this week how we battle with our sinful passions. We have learned that people without a relationship with Christ have zero power to overcome their sinful passions. Therefore, everyone without Christ can only bear fruit to death because ...
