Day 2

Scripture to Read: Romans 7:2

Yesterday, we began to see that the Law brings nothing but death. It’s not that God’s Law is bad, for we know that is not true. The Law brings death because it opens our eyes to the reality that we are sinners apart from Christ. The Law also shows us that we cannot fully walk in it daily (James 2:10). But God never leaves us hanging with nowhere to turn. He lovingly tells us in Romans 7:2, For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband. Since we’ll cover Romans 7:3 tomorrow, needless to say, God is making a massive point for us here. God reminds us that a man and woman are united under His commandment and are to remain “one” for the rest of their lives. But when a spouse dies, the living spouse is released from the marriage bond. Death is the bond breaker. This should make sense because we know that death results from sin, which breaks our fellowship with God. So, when a spouse dies, the living spouse must realize they are free to be bound in marriage to another and that God looks with favor on that second marriage just as much as He did on the first marriage. Why is God having Paul use marriage as an example? Because marriage is a beautiful bond between a man and a woman that God gave as a gift. We’ll unpack this more over the next two days.

Challenge & Application

Why is the marriage bond only broken through death and for no other reason? How will you share with others this week what God is teaching you through His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 3

Today, we further examine why God used the covenant of marriage and the death of a spouse to help us know what we’ve been set free from through death. God continues in Romans 7:3, So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that ...

Day 5

We all have days when we feel like we are under significant attack by the spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). We are in a spiritual battlefield every day, whether we feel like it or not. Still, some days the battlefield feels more challenging than others. Today, God reminds us in Romans 7:5, For while we were in the flesh, the sinf...

Even though we have surrendered to Christ, there are still days that we feel like our sinful passions still rule over us. Hopefully, the Scriptures posted yesterday were helpful in knowing what we must do to overcome our sinful passions. The truths ...

Day 7

We finish this week with more Good News from God and His Word. Before we get to the Good News, we have seen this week how we battle with our sinful passions. We have learned that people without a relationship with Christ have zero power to overcome their sinful passions. Therefore, everyone without Christ can only bear fruit to death because ...
