Scripture to Read: Romans 7:1
We begin another new week as we continue to walk through Romans. God has been teaching us so much about all we have received through our Lord Jesus Christ and this week is no different. God has much to teach us, and we must continue to thoroughly examine His Word so that we walk in obedience to His Word each day. This week we will examine the death we died when we surrendered to Christ as Lord and how that death has given us incredible freedom through Christ. Remember that in Romans 6:20–23, God tells us that when we were slaves of sin, we had zero righteousness. So, of course, the sin we lived in brought us nothing but death. But God also reminded us that since we have a relationship with Christ, we've been set free from sin and are now slaves of God. Being a slave to God may sound negative, but it's the opposite. By being under God's authority, we receive the incredible benefit of being sanctified by God and the gift of eternal life. So, God led Paul to ask this question in Romans 7:1, Or do you not know, brethren (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law has jurisdiction over a person as long as he lives? So, God had Paul ask this question to those still trying to earn God’s favor by seeking to fulfill the Law of God on their own. God wants everyone to know that the Law rules people until death. God’s desire for us, though, is life!
