Scripture to Read: Romans 6:10–11
From yesterday’s devotion, we know we no longer need to fear death. As we continue in Romans 6, God spells out what kind of death Christ died. We read in Romans 6:10–11, “For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” So, when Christ died, He did not only die a physical death, but He experienced our spiritual death, the death that we deserve because of our sin. So, when Christ died, He died to sin, which means He ended the power of sin and paid in full every sinner’s debt for their sin (Colossians 2:13–14). As believers, we fall into the trap of thinking that our Lord cleanses only the sins of our past. But God’s Word is clear, Christ paid the entire debt for our sins past, present, and even future. When we sin, we are still to confess our sins to our Heavenly Father (1 John 1:9). But then we must thank Him for His forgiveness due to Christ's payment for our sin. We also must follow our Lord’s example, living to glorify God the Father. We live to glorify God because we’ve been freed from sin. We must live in constant fellowship with our Lord, no longer choosing the path of sin. Finally, God tells us we must remember that we are dead to sin but alive to God through Christ. We’ve been blessed, indeed.
