Day 6

Scripture to Read: Romans 15:5–6

We ended yesterday’s devotion focusing on our Lord’s desire for us to be unified as His children. This is so critically important because when believers live in unity, we are not distracted by selfishness, nor do we lose sight of what God has already told us to do. When we are unified, we love our neighbor as we’re commanded (Matthew 22:39), we will look out for one another’s interests above our own (Philippians 2:3–4), pray for one another (Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2), willingly bear each other's burdens (Galatians 6:2), care for one another (1 Thessalonians 2:7–8), lovingly hold each other accountable (Matthew 7:1–5, Galatians 6:1), seek to encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 3:2, 5:11, 5:14), speak words of grace to one another (Ephesians 4:29, Colossians 4:6, treat one another with kindness and courtesy (Colossians 3:12), serve one another (Galatians 5:13), and so much more. God had Paul continue, as He tells us in Romans 15:6, that the ultimate goal of our unity is “so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” God desires all His children to worship, praise, and glorify Him (our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ) with one voice. What a beautiful picture to imagine—God’s children singing, shouting, preaching, and teaching with unity, all praise and glory to our King. Sundays for Christians are a small glimpse of what eternity will be like one day.

Challenge & Application

· In what ways are you working at being unified with other believers to honor, glorify, and praise our Lord? · How have you seen unity among believers, and how have you seen God use their unity to minister to each other?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

When we ended last week in Romans 14, God was making sure we understood that it was better not to do something so that a weaker believer would not be caused to stumble. So, we must always consider those around us to ensure we are not a stumbling block to them. With that in mind, God continued to use Paul, as he wrote Romans 15:1, to help all ...

Day 2

God had Paul continue to edify all believers by challenging us to examine our hearts toward others. God had Paul write in Romans 15:2, “Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.” This one scripture verse alone flies in the face of our modern-day culture. We know we are all born into sin and have a selfish nature, ...

Day 3

Yesterday, God challenged us to please our neighbors for their good and to be sure and edify them. Today, as we continue through Romans 15:1–7, God tells us why we are to please our neighbor. God had Paul write in Romans 15:3, For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me....

Day 4

God has been teaching us about bearing the weaknesses of those who are not as strong in their walk with Him and that we must please others and encourage them above ourselves. We also know that we do these things because it is precisely what our Lord Jesus Christ did for us. God then reminds us (in Romans 15:4) that everything He’s laid out th...

Day 5

As God led Paul to write the book of Romans, God had Paul pray for the believers in Rome, but this is also a prayer for us because God’s Word is everlasting. God led Paul to pray, in Romans 15:5–6, “Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, 6 so that w...

Day 7

God continues to challenge us in our relationships with each other. As we saw in the last two devotions, God had Paul pray for all believers to be unified and we know how important that is to God. Then God led Paul to write, in Romans 15:7, “Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.” When we accept ea...
