Scripture to Read: Romans 15:4
God has been teaching us about bearing the weaknesses of those who are not as strong in their walk with Him and that we must please others and encourage them above ourselves. We also know that we do these things because it is precisely what our Lord Jesus Christ did for us. God then reminds us (in Romans 15:4) that everything He’s laid out through Paul was already written long ago in His Word. So much of God’s Word is repeated over and over so that there is no doubt about how we are to live for Him. God repeats Himself because we, as humans, are slow to remember His Truth. The good news for us is that God tells us (in Romans 15:4) that through His Word, we learn to persevere and receive encouragement. God desires us to know Him intimately, and the only way to know Him deeply is by getting into His Word so His Word gets into us. God continually teaches us Truth through His Word because His Word is Truth. We listen to so many voices daily, but if we miss God’s voice through His Word, we will miss what is most important—God’s Truth, as Jesus teaches us in John 8:31–32, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” With freedom comes hope, and God’s hope comes through Christ and His Word. So, passionately pursue God’s Word because God’s hope never disappoints (Romans 5:5).
