Day 3

Scripture to Read: Romans 14:4

God had Paul write in Romans 14:4, “Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” God reminds us that He is the Judge and the One who approves us. Remember, God is challenging us this week about not judging each other. Don’t think that God is telling us not to hold each other accountable nor to come alongside each other when we’ve sinned and to gently restore those who have sinned so that they get back into right fellowship with Him and others (see Galatians 6:1–2, Matthew 7:1–5) because we are to hold each other accountable in our walk with our Lord and our obedience to Him and His Word. So, not holding people accountable is not the issue God speaks of here in Romans 14. Instead, God is reminding us that our lives belong to Him and that we must bring glory to Him in everything we do, say, think, and speak (see 1 Corinthians 10:31, Ephesians 4:29–32, Colossians 3:17, Colossians 3:23–24, 1 Peter 4:11). Our lives do not belong to us for us to do with them what we want or feel like doing. Christ purchased us out of the slave market of sin, set us free from the power and penalty of sin, and we became slaves to Him and His righteousness to glorify Him through our lives (see 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, Romans 6:16–18).

Challenge & Application

· Why must we remember that God is our Judge and even though we must hold each other accountable, He has the final word? · Why is it so important to be constantly reminded that we belong to our Lord and must bring glory to Him in all we do?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week, God will challenge us on how we judge each other as believers. God had Paul begin by writing this in Romans 14:1, "Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions.” So, God began laying out how to deal with those who were weak in faith. There are two types of people within God’s ...

God had Paul continue in Romans 14:2–3 by writing, “One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3 The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him.” We must understand the biblical cont...

Day 4

God is challenging us as His children to guard against judging each other over issues that are not that important. God had Paul write in Romans 14:5–6, “One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who...

Day 5

We learned yesterday that worship is about honoring our Lord. As believers, we must practice His presence in our lives by worshipping Christ daily. God finished Romans 14:6 by circling back to eating. The key is that every believer gives thanks to God for what we eat or don’t eat. Either way, we honor Him! That is why God had Paul continue to...

Day 6

There was a problem in the early church between the Jews who had surrendered to Christ and the Gentiles who had surrendered to Christ. The believing Jews had been taught, through God’s Word in the Old Testament, about things that were clean and unclean. For example, God had taught them the importance of circumcision and that circumcision was ...

Day 7

As we close out this week, we have seen how God challenged us on what we hold our brothers and sisters in Christ accountable for and why we should not judge them. Today, God reminds us of another one of His incredible Truths in Romans 14:11–12, “For it is written, ‘As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall g...
