Day 7

Scripture to Read: Romans 13:14

God has taught us a lot this week, which all boils down to being submitted to Him as our Lord. We must trust in His sovereign will even when we cannot understand it. When we submit to Him, we are putting our faith into action. Faith is what destroys all of the flaming arrows of the spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:16). As we finish today, we read this in Romans 13:14, 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. There are several scriptures (Galatians 3:27, Ephesians 4:24, Colossians 3:10, Colossians 3:12) where God tells us to “put on” or to “clothe” ourselves with Christ, the new self, or Christ’s characteristics. When we “put on Christ” or “clothe” ourselves with Christ, we choose to walk, talk, act, and think like Christ. We choose to be fully submitted to Christ’s authority in our lives. This may seem impossible at times, but remember, nothing is impossible for God (Luke 1:37). We know we have His Holy Spirit in us, so we have His power (Acts 1:8) to be able to do exactly what He’s commanded to do. God also tells us to “make no provision for the flesh.” This means we must continually crucify our flesh along with all of its passions and desires (Galatians 5:24). Our flesh always hungers for what this world offers, therefore, crucifying our flesh gives us daily victory in walking in obedience to our Lord (Romans 6:12–14).

Challenge & Application

· What did God teach you today about putting on Christ or clothing yourself with Christ and crucifying your flesh? · How are you actively putting on Christ each day, and how are you overcoming your flesh?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We begin this week in Romans 13:8, as God had Paul write to us telling us that we should owe no one except to love one another and to seek the best for all. God goes on and has Paul write, “for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.” We’ll unpack what fulfilling the law looks like in tomorrow’s devotion as we cover Romans 13:9. But ...

Day 2

God continues to teach us about submission, but now He shifts to us being submitted to His commandments. Now, though God had Paul list specifically from the Ten Commandments in Romans 13:9, God made sure to include this statement, “and if there is any other commandment,” making sure that there is no mistake to what He is telling us all. We ar...

Day 3

God is so gracious and merciful toward us as we learn to walk in total submission to Him and His Word. Be sure to thank Him daily for His grace and mercy because we would all be judged harshly without them. Yesterday, God taught us that His command to love Him and others are the two greatest commandments that He has given us. God continues to...

Day 4

Today, we examine Romans 13:11, as God led Paul to write, “Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.” The first two words, “Do this,” are in reference to what we covered in yesterday’s devotion, that we are to love and not harm anyone. So, God ...

Day 5

As we continue from yesterday’s devotion, God tells us in Romans 13:12 that this present evil age is almost finished. Remember that this was written about 2,000 years ago, and as the first readers received God’s Word, there was an excitement that Christ’s return was near. God is eternal, and as His Word says in 2 Peter 3:8, But do not let thi...

Day 6

God continues today from Romans 13:12, as He told us to “lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” As we choose to live for our Lord, God tells us in Romans 13:13, “Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.” We must not ge...
