Day 4

Scripture to Read: Romans 13:11

Today, we examine Romans 13:11, as God led Paul to write, “Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.” The first two words, “Do this,” are in reference to what we covered in yesterday’s devotion, that we are to love and not harm anyone. So, God then reminds us that since we know the darkness of our times and how we look forward to Christ’s return, we must be committed to a deep intimacy with Him and not daydream. God does not want us in a spiritual stupor, daze, or numbness. But the sad truth is that too many who claim to know Christ as their Lord and Savior live just that way. So-called Christians use the lamest excuses for not sharing their faith, being discipled, plugging into a strong body of believers, serving, giving of their finances, getting into the Word of God each day, deepening their intimacy with God through daily prayer/fellowship with Him, and so much more. God wants us to live with a daily hunger and thirst for Him and His word because the souls of lost people are at stake. God is reminding us that the time for every believer to awaken from any spiritual complacency is now. God tells us that our salvation is nearer to us than when we first surrendered to Christ as Lord. Our Lord will return, and we must be ready. Therefore, we need to live as if it’s happening today.

Challenge & Application

· Why do so many so-called Christians today live their lives as if their life is all about them and not about Christ? · How are you living with the expectancy that Christ could come back today?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We begin this week in Romans 13:8, as God had Paul write to us telling us that we should owe no one except to love one another and to seek the best for all. God goes on and has Paul write, “for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.” We’ll unpack what fulfilling the law looks like in tomorrow’s devotion as we cover Romans 13:9. But ...

Day 2

God continues to teach us about submission, but now He shifts to us being submitted to His commandments. Now, though God had Paul list specifically from the Ten Commandments in Romans 13:9, God made sure to include this statement, “and if there is any other commandment,” making sure that there is no mistake to what He is telling us all. We ar...

Day 3

God is so gracious and merciful toward us as we learn to walk in total submission to Him and His Word. Be sure to thank Him daily for His grace and mercy because we would all be judged harshly without them. Yesterday, God taught us that His command to love Him and others are the two greatest commandments that He has given us. God continues to...

Day 5

As we continue from yesterday’s devotion, God tells us in Romans 13:12 that this present evil age is almost finished. Remember that this was written about 2,000 years ago, and as the first readers received God’s Word, there was an excitement that Christ’s return was near. God is eternal, and as His Word says in 2 Peter 3:8, But do not let thi...

Day 6

God continues today from Romans 13:12, as He told us to “lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” As we choose to live for our Lord, God tells us in Romans 13:13, “Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.” We must not ge...

Day 7

God has taught us a lot this week, which all boils down to being submitted to Him as our Lord. We must trust in His sovereign will even when we cannot understand it. When we submit to Him, we are putting our faith into action. Faith is what destroys all of the flaming arrows of the spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:16). As we finish t...
