Scripture to Read: Romans 13:10
God is so gracious and merciful toward us as we learn to walk in total submission to Him and His Word. Be sure to thank Him daily for His grace and mercy because we would all be judged harshly without them. Yesterday, God taught us that His command to love Him and others are the two greatest commandments that He has given us. God continues today, in Romans 13:10, to show us what love looks like and what we must guard against. So, God had Paul write in Romans 13:10, “Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” When we love as God commands, we never choose to do wrong to someone or hurt someone intentionally. God’s love is always gracious and kind. In case you need a little help from the first question from yesterday’s devotion, God commands us to love because we cannot love the way He’s commanded unless we submit to Him as King and Lord. We can only love the way God has commanded after He fills us with His Holy Spirit, for only then do we have His love abiding in us at all times. Also, we must understand that to love is a choice and not a feeling. This world in which we live teaches the lie that love is about how we feel. God makes it clear that loving Him and others is a choice and that is why He commands us to love. And, as we love, we fulfill God’s perfect law (Matthew 22:37–40, John 13:34–35).
