Day 6

Scripture to Read: Romans 12:17–18

God continues to challenge us in how we treat others, no matter how they have treated us. As we have already discussed this week, we know our flesh is ugly, selfish, conceited, never satisfied, always thinks it is right, and so on. God has commanded us to continually crucify our flesh along with all of its desires. So, as we continue to unpack God’s Word, God tells us in Romans 12:17–18, Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Stop just for a moment and consider how many times our flesh has told us that we have a right to get someone back for something they have done to us. Our fleshly desire will always be to want to take matters into our own hands and deal with the situation as we think is right in our own eyes. But God radically changes all of us because He transforms us to be just like Him by placing His Holy Spirit in us. If anyone had a right to “pay back evil for evil,” our Lord Jesus Christ, being perfect in every way, had the right to bring His judgment on those who nailed Him to the cross. But our Lord Jesus Christ showed compassion, as we see in Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” God desires us to follow our Lord’s example and to “be at peace with all men.”

Day 1

God teaches, trains, admonishes, feeds, grows, challenges, and disciplines (and so much more) all of us through His rich Word. That is why God wants us in His Word and His Word in us every day of our lives. God says in Romans 12:3, For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought ...

Day 2

Yesterday, we learned that God is the One who gave us the faith we have so that we can trust Him in all areas of our lives. Though we have all been given the same faith by God, we do not all have the same responsibilities in our service to our Lord. We know we’ve all been called to “make disciples” according to Matthew 28:18–20. But even in “...

Day 3

God taught us yesterday that we belong to the body of Christ and that we have a specific purpose within His body. So, God had Paul continue to define our role within the body of Christ in Romans 12:6–8, Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the...

Day 4

God gives us some great commands today that we must practice daily to shine brightly for Him. First, God tells us to be sure our love is real. There are too many “pretenders” in this world who use others for their selfish motives. God tells us that we should never be that kind of person. God also tells us to hate what is evil and to cling tig...

Day 5

God uses His beautiful Truth to challenge us each new day. As we read, study, and memorize God’s Truth, we can see how our fleshly nature always comes against God’s Truth. We know our flesh will buck God and His Truth because God tells us in Galatians 5:17, For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; fo...

Day 7

We finish today with Romans 12:19–21. God taught us yesterday that we’re never to pay back evil, no matter what we think someone else deserves. In Romans 12:19, God says, Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. God used the word “never” aga...
