Day 5

Scripture to Read: Romans 12:14–16

God uses His beautiful Truth to challenge us each new day. As we read, study, and memorize God’s Truth, we can see how our fleshly nature always comes against God’s Truth. We know our flesh will buck God and His Truth because God tells us in Galatians 5:17, For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another. So, there is a battle going on within us, and we must crucify our flesh (Romans 6:12–14, Galatians 5:24) to walk in obedience to our Lord’s Word. As we read Romans 12:14, we realize that apart from Christ, there is no way for us to bless those who have caused us harm and hardship. To bless those who have hurt us is only possible as we submit to our Lord Jesus Christ and surrender our selfish motives to Him. Our flesh wants to curse and hurt those who have done the same to us, but God says we are not to look, act, or model our lives after them. Then God tells us to rejoice with those who rejoice and to mourn with those who mourn. We breathe our Lord’s love and compassion into others when we rejoice and weep with them. Finally, today God tells us in Romans 12:16, Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Remember, God told us this in Romans 12:3. We need His constant reminders.

Challenge & Application

· Since our flesh is so ugly and selfish, how are you crucifying your flesh so you live obediently to our Lord? · How are you walking in the Truth God gave you today, and how can you improve?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God teaches, trains, admonishes, feeds, grows, challenges, and disciplines (and so much more) all of us through His rich Word. That is why God wants us in His Word and His Word in us every day of our lives. God says in Romans 12:3, For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought ...

Day 2

Yesterday, we learned that God is the One who gave us the faith we have so that we can trust Him in all areas of our lives. Though we have all been given the same faith by God, we do not all have the same responsibilities in our service to our Lord. We know we’ve all been called to “make disciples” according to Matthew 28:18–20. But even in “...

Day 3

God taught us yesterday that we belong to the body of Christ and that we have a specific purpose within His body. So, God had Paul continue to define our role within the body of Christ in Romans 12:6–8, Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the...

Day 4

God gives us some great commands today that we must practice daily to shine brightly for Him. First, God tells us to be sure our love is real. There are too many “pretenders” in this world who use others for their selfish motives. God tells us that we should never be that kind of person. God also tells us to hate what is evil and to cling tig...

Day 6

God continues to challenge us in how we treat others, no matter how they have treated us. As we have already discussed this week, we know our flesh is ugly, selfish, conceited, never satisfied, always thinks it is right, and so on. God has commanded us to continually crucify our flesh along with all of its desires. So, as we continue to unpac...

Day 7

We finish today with Romans 12:19–21. God taught us yesterday that we’re never to pay back evil, no matter what we think someone else deserves. In Romans 12:19, God says, Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. God used the word “never” aga...
