Scripture to Read: Psalm 142:4
God allowed David to share what he was going through when he penned Psalm 142. God allowed David to write in Psalm 142:4, “Look to the right and see; For there is no one who regards me; There is no escape for me; No one cares for my soul.” Almost all commentaries agree that the right hand indicates where one’s witness, champion, or helper stood as a support. Our Lord Jesus Christ is our Helper, Champion, and Witness on our behalf, no matter what we face. We find in Psalm 16:8, “I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” We can stand firm through the fiercest tests and trials because our Lord is with us. We read in Psalm 109:31, “For He stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul.” No matter who may judge us, our Lord stands with us and speaks on our behalf, for we belong to Him and are part of His family. However, when David wrote Psalm 142, he felt like no one was with him. We don’t know exactly how long David was alone. Still, God tells us this in 1 Samuel 22:1–2, “…when his brothers and all his father’s household heard of it, they went down there to him. 2 Everyone who was in distress, …in debt, and…discontented gathered to him; and he became captain over them. Now there were about four hundred men…” God took care of David and sent him a support team.
