Scripture to Read: Psalm 142:3
God is Omniscient, so there is nothing that we can share with Him that He does not already know. But it is still so important for us to communicate with Him what we are going through. As we share, we are reminded of His sweet grace, kindness, love, and mercy. We also are encouraged through His Word, for He shows us the fullness of Himself and that He cares for our every need. God had David write many of the Psalms to reveal what it looks like to be real before Him. We see David’s transparency as we read Psalm 142. Today, God shows us this in Psalm 142:3, “When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path. In the way where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.” David was not shy, and remember that David was led by God’s Spirit as he wrote. Still, God used David to show us that David was “overwhelmed” by what he was facing as he hid in the cave of Adullam since Saul, the king, wanted to kill David, for Saul considered David a threat to taking over his throne as king. But God also used David to encourage, for David wrote, “You knew my path.” God shows us that He always knows what we are facing, and He’s never surprised by anything we are going through. Then, God even allowed David to state, “they have hidden a trap for me.” God knew that Saul was seeking David’s life, but again, allowed David to share his heart, which is what God desires from us.
Challenge & Application
· How do you deal with it when you are overwhelmed and feel like the world is crashing in on you, and why do you deal with it that way?
· What did God teach you today, through David, that you need to put into practice each day?
