Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:2
God loves it when we fellowship with Him, much like a dad and mom love it when their children enjoy spending time with them. As God allowed the psalmist to write, we read in Psalm 130:2, “Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.” The fact that the psalmist asked God to listen to him, to be attentive to him, and to be sure and hear his prayers is not what we still have to ask God for today. There are times when we may feel distant from God—that feeling of distance can be caused by our lack of spending intimate time with Him due to unconfessed sin in our lives or possibly because we’re in the middle of a fiery test and trial. Whatever may cause those feelings of distance, as followers of Christ, we can be assured that God continually lives in us through His Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19–20). We do not need to fear that God will leave us or that He is unwilling to listen to us. The reason God led the psalmist to write what he wrote is that prior to Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, the Holy Spirit would only come upon people but did not continually indwell followers of God yet. People still had to go to God on the basis of faith, just like we do today, but they did not get the blessing of the Holy Spirit to live in them, though He was with them (John 14:17).
Challenge & Application
· Why can we be assured that God hears us when we pray?
· What is the difference between OT believers and NT believers, and what is the same?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
