Scripture to Read: Nehemiah 4:17-23
This week has been a great reminder of how we are to face the daily battles we are in and how to overcome our enemy, which is the spiritual forces of darkness in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). Today we finish up reading Nehemiah 4:17-23. We read that some of the people of Jerusalem who carried things would work with one hand while they had their weapon in their other hand. The actual builders of the wall each had their sword on their side. Everyone was working, but everyone was also ready for battle. Nehemiah reminded all of the workers that because they were spread out, if they heard the trumpet sound everyone was to rally at that area. But then Nehemiah said this in Nehemiah 4:20, “Our God will fight for us.” Nehemiah did not say, “We will fight together,” or “We will do the fighting,” or We will wage battle as a unit.” Nehemiah told the people that God was going to fight for them. There are days for all of us when we buy the lie of the spiritual forces of darkness and think that we’re alone in our battle. We begin to believe we can never overcome the battle. We think we’re in a battle that will definitely take us down. We must renew our minds (Ephesians 4:23, Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 10:5) daily and believe God’s Truth and crucify our feelings. God is battling on our behalf, and we overcome by trusting in Him (1 John 5:4).
