Day 4

Scripture to Read: Nehemiah 4:7-8

Our focus this week has been on spiritual battles and how to wage war correctly. God has lovingly laid out great examples throughout His Word and Nehemiah is one of those great examples for us to follow. We know that God put a plan in Nehemiah’s heart on getting the wall rebuilt around Jerusalem. God gave Nehemiah the boldness he needed to request King Artaxerxes for what he needed to get this project done. God provided, and Nehemiah went to Jerusalem to get the work done. We’ve also seen how the spiritual forces of darkness rise up when God is at work through His children. Nehemiah, so far, has prayed and asked God to battle for him against his enemies. After Nehemiah prayed, he got back to working on the wall. Now we read in Nehemiah 4:7-8 that Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites ALL decided to fight against Nehemiah and those in Jerusalem. As we see in Nehemiah 4:7-8, Nehemiah’s enemies did not just give up and walk away. Nehemiah’s enemies grew in number and also conspired together to put a better battle plan in place to try and stop the rebuilding of the wall. We need to know that our enemy is not just going to lay down and surrender. We will face newer and sometimes even bigger battles in our daily walk with our Lord. We must keep our guard up and battle according to Ephesians 6:10-18 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about the spiritual battlefield today? 2. What must you do to be able to be victorious in the battlefield each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We read in Nehemiah 4:1-3 again about Sanballat and Tobiah. Remember that we were introduced to these two men back in Nehemiah 2:10. Sanballat and Tobiah were totally against the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem. Sanballat was so angry that he mocked Nehemiah and the rest of the Jews who were working to rebuild the wall. Sanballat is r...

Day 3

As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, Nehemiah did not get into a war of words with Sanballat and Tobiah. Nehemiah prayed with perseverance and trusted God would battle for him and the Jews who were working with him. Imagine how different many social media posts would be if every Christian followed the example God has given us through Nehemiah. ...

Day 5

When we face spiritual battles each day, we know that we are to pray. God has lovingly shown us, through Nehemiah, that Nehemiah began the work God had for him to do. Nehemiah had Sanballat and Tobiah start mocking him and the other laborers, and so Nehemiah prayed and got back to doing what God called him to do. Then Sanballat and Tobiah had...

Day 6

God loves us to rest in Him completely and trust Him in every area of our lives. God never wants us to lean on our strength but to rely on Him and know our strength comes from Him (Ephesians 6:10). We know Nehemiah prayed, continued in the work God had called him to, and provided the physical protection so the wall around Jerusalem could be r...

Day 7

This week has been a great reminder of how we are to face the daily battles we are in and how to overcome our enemy, which is the spiritual forces of darkness in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). Today we finish up reading Nehemiah 4:17-23. We read that some of the people of Jerusalem who carried things would work with one hand while they...
