Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:28–30
Jesus continues to reveal to us how silly it is for us to worry. Jesus says in Matthew 6:28–30, “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!” Jesus told us how God takes care of the birds, but then Jesus uses the lilies as an illustration and compares the beauty of the lilies to King Solomon. If God took the time to create lilies and make them beautiful for everyone to enjoy, knowing they don’t last long, surely God will take care of clothing us. What we must guard against is confusing our needs and our wants. We may want more than what God has chosen to provide for us. We may want what others have and in allowing our desires to become ungodly, we allow jealousy, envy, and strife to creep into our hearts. God knows what our needs are, and we must choose to be wise stewards of the finances God provides for us. If we’re not careful, we’ll fall into the trap of thinking we deserve more because someone else has more than us. God reminds us that we must choose to focus on Him, for He is our Provider (Colossians 3:1–2)!

· What are you doing to guard your heart from jealousy, envy, and strife but instead focus on your King?
