Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:24
As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, we must choose who is master over our lives. As God’s Word speaks to us, God used Paul to write in Romans 6:16–18, “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.” Again, God shows us that whoever we offer ourselves to do their will, we are slaves to the one we choose to obey. As Christians, we know we have surrendered to Christ as the Lord of our lives, but also as Christians, submitting to Christ as Lord is not a one-time event or decision. We must daily submit to our Lord and His Word and crucify all of our fleshly desires so that we walk in obedience to Him. The moment we surrender to our fleshly desires, at the same time, we choose to break fellowship with our Lord as we turn our backs to Him in order to chase the garbage of this world. The only way to restore right fellowship with our King is to repent (turn back to our Lord). God tells us in 1 John 1:9 how to be restored to right fellowship with Him. Again, the choice is ours!
Challenge & Application
· What more did God teach you today about your choices and how your choices affect your fellowship with Him?
· How will you choose to walk with our Lord today, and how will you help others to do the same?
