Day 7

Scripture to Read: Matthew 5:31–32

In Matthew 5:31–32, Jesus said, “It was said, ‘Whoever sends his wife away, let him give her a certificate of divorce’; 32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” To better understand, let’s read what Jesus said to the Pharisees in Matthew 19:7–8, They *said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8 He *said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.” Jesus said that Moses permitted the Israelites to divorce because of the hardness of their hearts. Jesus did not say that God the Father permitted. God hates divorce because He designed marriage so that a husband and wife become one. Previous to the question in Matthew 19:7, we find this in Matthew 19:3–6: Some Pharisees came to Jesus…asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?” 4 …He answered…, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” God unites; therefore, no man should separate.

Challenge & Application

· Why does God hate divorce the same way He hates all sin? · What was God’s design for marriage, and how has the enemy gained a foothold in so many marriages over the years?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus is our King, Lord, Master, and Friend. He came to pay the price for all mankind’s sins and to set us all free from sin's bondage. Our Lord Jesus Christ does not want us to be a slave to anything except Him and His righteousness. God said it like this in Romans 6:16-18, “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slav...

Day 2

Adultery is when a married man or married woman breaks the covenant they’ve made with their spouse and chooses to be intimate with someone besides their spouse. The bond between a husband and wife is a bond that God unites. God has given us very specific commands in Ephesians 5:21–33 and 1 Peter 3:1–7 of how husbands and wives are to love and...

Day 3

Jesus continued teaching and said this in Matthew 5:28, “but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Jesus left no doubt where sin starts in our lives, and sin does not start with the act, but sin starts within our minds. Our minds are where the battles with temp...

Day 4

Since our minds are where our battles with temptation begin, we must guard our minds well. God’s Word tells us in Ephesians 6:10–18 that we must put on the whole armor of God, knowing the battlefield we walk into each day. In Ephesians 6:17, God’s Word tells us to make sure we have the “helmet of salvation” on and that we continually take up ...

Day 5

As Jesus taught the people, there were times He used illustrations to firmly get His Truth across. Jesus said in Matthew 5:29–30, “29 If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 If your right hand mak...

Day 6

Since overcoming our fleshly desires is what Jesus desires for us, we need to understand what we’re up against. God’s Word tells us in Galatians 5:19–25, “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 2...
