Day 3

Scripture to Read: Matthew 5:28

Jesus continued teaching and said this in Matthew 5:28, “but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Jesus left no doubt where sin starts in our lives, and sin does not start with the act, but sin starts within our minds. Our minds are where the battles with temptation always begin. God created our minds, so He knows how powerful they are. As Jesus spoke, He made it clear that lustful thoughts are just as sinful as lustful actions. God tells us how our minds must be prepared for our battles. God says in 2 Corinthians 10:3–5, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” God says that though we live in the fleshly shell we currently inhabit, that is not where our battles begin. God reminds us that the weapons He has given us are “divinely powerful” (His Holy Spirit in us) so we can take every thought captive and bring it under the authority of Christ in us. God’s Word is clear that our minds must be “renewed” and focused on Christ and His Word every day (Romans 12:1–2, Ephesians 4:23, Philippians 4:8, Colossians 3:1–2).

Day 1

Jesus is our King, Lord, Master, and Friend. He came to pay the price for all mankind’s sins and to set us all free from sin's bondage. Our Lord Jesus Christ does not want us to be a slave to anything except Him and His righteousness. God said it like this in Romans 6:16-18, “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slav...

Day 2

Adultery is when a married man or married woman breaks the covenant they’ve made with their spouse and chooses to be intimate with someone besides their spouse. The bond between a husband and wife is a bond that God unites. God has given us very specific commands in Ephesians 5:21–33 and 1 Peter 3:1–7 of how husbands and wives are to love and...

Day 4

Since our minds are where our battles with temptation begin, we must guard our minds well. God’s Word tells us in Ephesians 6:10–18 that we must put on the whole armor of God, knowing the battlefield we walk into each day. In Ephesians 6:17, God’s Word tells us to make sure we have the “helmet of salvation” on and that we continually take up ...

Day 5

As Jesus taught the people, there were times He used illustrations to firmly get His Truth across. Jesus said in Matthew 5:29–30, “29 If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 If your right hand mak...

Day 6

Since overcoming our fleshly desires is what Jesus desires for us, we need to understand what we’re up against. God’s Word tells us in Galatians 5:19–25, “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 2...

Day 7

In Matthew 5:31–32, Jesus said, “It was said, ‘Whoever sends his wife away, let him give her a certificate of divorce’; 32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” To better understand, let’s read what Jesus sai...
