Scripture to Read: Matthew 5:18
Jesus did not want there to be any question about the authority of His Word. Some have thought that Jesus might be saying in Matthew 5:18 that when heaven and earth pass away, God’s Word will also pass away. But that is not what Jesus was saying. Jesus was assuring the people that God’s Word will stand forever. We see Jesus say something similar in Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31, and Luke 21:33, as Jesus says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” God and His Word are everlasting. Jesus even says this in Luke 16:17, “But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.” We have been given Christ’s guarantee that God’s Word will be fulfilled and that His Word is Truth. Because God’s Word is Truth, we must choose to walk in His Truth. Today, we are given so much information through billboards, television, social media, and multiple other websites. We have so much information at our fingertips that we can become overwhelmed trying to figure out what is true and what is a lie. But when it comes to God’s Word, we do not have to wonder. We can know, without any doubt, that God's Word is reliable 100% of the time. Everything God has given us in His Word has either already happened or will happen. We just need to fill our minds and hearts with His Word so we can discern the lies this world tries to feed us.
