Day 6

Scripture to Read: Matthew 5:9

Our Lord is our Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), and since we surrendered to Him as Lord, He expects us to be “peacemakers.” Jesus said, in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” What a privilege to be called children of God and because we are His children, He wants us to be an imitator of Him (Ephesians 5:1). To be a “peacemaker” means we biblically seek to be in right fellowship with the people around us. Peacemaker Ministries in Colorado have incredible resources to help believers be true “peacemakers.” When we enter a conflict, God wants us to deal with the conflict in a manner that honors Him as our God. Four Principles from Peacemaker Ministries can help us all be better peacemakers in any conflict. We must 1. GLORIFY GOD: “How can I glorify God and give witness to what Christ has done for me in this situation?” (1 Corinthians 10:31) 2. GET THE LOG OUT OF MY OWN EYE: “How have I contributed to this conflict and what do I need to do to help resolve it?” (Matthew 7:1–5) 3. GENTLY RESTORE: “How can I lovingly serve others by helping them understand how they have contributed to this conflict?” (Galatians 6:1–2) 4. GO AND BE RECONCILED: “How can I demonstrate God’s forgiveness and encourage a reasonable solution to this conflict?” (Matthew 5:23–24). As we ask ourselves the above questions and fall in line with what God’s Word teaches us, we can be the “peacemakers” God wants us to be.

Day 1

Over the next three months, we have the privilege to walk through the Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew 5, 6, & 7. As we start in Matthew 5:1–2, we need a little context. Jesus had called His disciples to follow Him. According to Matthew 4:23–25, “Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the g...

Day 2

Jesus began teaching and said this in Matthew 5:3: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Since Jesus uses the word “blessed” several times in Matthew 5:2–11, we need to understand what the word “blessed” means. When the word “blessed” is used in reference to God, it can mean to “praise” God. Some examples in S...

Day 3

Jesus also said, in Matthew 5:4–5, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.” We can mourn many things: the death of a friend or a loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of a close friendship due to someone moving, the loss of a pet, and so many other things. But wi...

Day 4

There are many things in this world that we think will bring us satisfaction. If we ask most people, “What brings you the most satisfaction?” everyone would have their interpretation of what they believe is most satisfying to them. But Jesus is our final authority and in Matthew 5:6, He said,“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righte...

Day 5

God loves to bless those who walk in obedience to Him and His Word; that is why Jesus also shared in Matthew 5:7–8, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” As Christ describes, showing mercy to others is only possible to those who have received the rich mercy of our L...

Day 7

We end this week's devotions examining what Jesus said in Matthew 5:10–12, “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your re...
