Day 3

Scripture to Read: Matthew 5:4–5

Jesus also said, in Matthew 5:4–5, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.” We can mourn many things: the death of a friend or a loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of a close friendship due to someone moving, the loss of a pet, and so many other things. But within the context of Jesus’ teaching, there must be mourning over our sins. In 2 Corinthians 7:10, God’s Word says, “For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.” When we have godly sorrow over our sins, it always leads to repentance. Only Christ can give us the comfort we need, for through His death, we receive life and complete forgiveness for our sins. There is no better comfort than knowing we are cleansed by our King and not condemned. Jesus also said that the “gentle” are shown God’s favor and will inherit the earth. “Gentle” is often referred to as "strength under control.” Our Lord Jesus Christ, while He lived here on earth, was the perfect example of being “gentle.” Jesus is referring to those who will come to know Him as Lord and Savior. Once people believe in Christ as Lord, they belong to Him. One day there will be a new heaven and earth and our Lord will be the King over it all. Everyone who is His will inherit the earth with Him.

Challenge & Application

· What does mourning over our sins mean, and why is it so important to our fellowship with Christ? · Gentleness is only possible through Christ (Galatians 5:23). So, how are you practicing being gentle to others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Over the next three months, we have the privilege to walk through the Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew 5, 6, & 7. As we start in Matthew 5:1–2, we need a little context. Day 2

Jesus began teaching and said this in Matthew 5:3: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Since Jesus uses the word “blessed” several times in Matthew 5:2–11, we need to understand what the word “blessed” means. When the word “blessed” is used in reference to God, it can mean to “praise” God. Some examples in S...

But Jesus is our final authority and in Matthew 5:6, He said,“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righte...

Day 5

God loves to bless those who walk in obedience to Him and His Word; that is why Jesus also shared in Matthew 5:7–8, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” As Christ describes, showing mercy to others is only possible to those who have received the rich mercy of our L...

Day 6

Our Lord is our Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), and since we surrendered to Him as Lord, He expects us to be “peacemakers.” Jesus said, in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” What a privilege to be called children of God and because we are His children, He wants us to be an imitator of Him (Ephesian...
