Scripture to Read: Luke 2:1-21
Even though it is the day after Christmas, Luke 2:1-21 is an excellent reminder of how God the Father orchestrated the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. God chose two young people, Mary and Joseph, to be Jesus’ earthly mom and dad. God made sure that a census was going to be taken during the days that Mary was about to give birth so that Joseph and Mary would go “to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because Joseph was of the house and family of David” (Luke 2:4). God had the angels proclaim to shepherds the birth of The Lamb of God, who came to this world to be the final sacrifice for the sins of all people. It is hard for us to imagine every minute detail that God orchestrated for Christ to come the way He did. When we consider all of these details, it’s a great reminder of how much our Heavenly Father loves us and cares for us as His children. Through the ages, God used men and women just like us to carry out His perfect will so Christ could be our perfect sacrifice. God continues to use us to fulfill His perfect will each day. We are just like all of the people who have gone before us because they did not know the full extent of God’s handiwork in their lives. We also do not know, nor do we fully see, all the ways that God is using us each day. We must be obedient to His Word and expectantly watch for His return.
