Day 5

Scripture to Read: Luke 1:26-45

Today we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, it’s appropriate to examine Luke 1 as Gabriel foretold to Mary about the birth of our Lord. Many theologians believe that Mary was only 13 or 14 years of age and Joseph was around 17 to 18 years of age when all of this happened. During Christ's time, the culture of the Jews was for young men to enter into manhood at age 13, so most young men were married by age 18. When we consider Mary and Joseph's ages, this would have been an incredibly tough story to share with their family and friends. But God was already working in Elizabeth, Mary’s cousin, for Elizabeth was six months pregnant with John the Baptist. When Mary showed up at Elizabeth and Zacharias' house, Mary called out to Elizabeth and when she heard Mary's greeting, John the Baptist leaped in Elizabeth's womb. For John the Baptist, still in Elizabeth's womb, to leap was an incredible sign from God that Mary was carrying the King of all kings. Often among Christians in America today, we will hear of those looking for a sign from God. God still performs miracles today, but we as Christians have so much more than what Mary and the other believers had in the time of Christ. God has given us His Holy Word, and God has also given us Himself through His Holy Spirit living in us. If we want to see God's miraculous work, we need to remember the miracle of new birth in Christ that each of us has.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His miraculous work in you through your new birth in Christ? 2. As you celebrate Christ, pray Colossians 4:3-4 for yourself to be able to share Christ with the people you are with today.

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week is Christmas week, and it is a great time to celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ's birth with family and friends. God never wants us to forget how much He loves us. God proved that unfailing love for us when He came in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ and gave His life to pay the full price for our sin. The fact that God chose to com...

Day 2

In yesterday’s devotion, we began to examine Joseph and Mary’s situation because Mary was pregnant. We must understand Jewish culture to understand the story. When a man and woman got engaged, it was as if they were already married. The groom would go and build a bridal suite connected to his father’s house. Once the bridal suite was finished...

Day 3

Today we read about the magi in Matthew 2. We do not know much about the magi and we are not sure how many visited our Lord as a child. Through tradition, because of the three gifts, many believe there were only three magi but there could have been many. God, in His sovereign work and will, led the magi to Bethlehem. The magi brought gifts: g...

Day 4

As we continue to examine Matthew 2, we read how God spoke to Joseph in a dream again and told him to take Mary and Jesus and move to Egypt (Matthew 2:14-15, So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. 15 He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken b...

Day 6

Even though it is the day after Christmas, Luke 2:1-21 is an excellent reminder of how God the Father orchestrated the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. God chose two young people, Mary and Joseph, to be Jesus’ earthly mom and dad. God made sure that a census was going to be taken during the days that Mary was about to give birth so that Joseph...

Day 7

Many people in our world today still doubt whether Jesus is God in the flesh, the One True Messiah, the King of all kings, and the Lord of all lords. As we read John 1:1-14 today, God clearly tells us that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came int...
