Scripture to Read: Luke 6:17–19
Jesus chose the twelve young men He would spend the most time with and disciple, but there were many other disciples who wanted to follow Him as well. God had Luke record in Luke 6:17–19, “Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place; and there was a large crowd of His disciples, and a great throng of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured. 19 And all the people were trying to touch Him, for power was coming from Him and healing them all.” The needs of the people were many and the number of those following Jesus continued to grow. These other disciples came to hear Jesus, but many came to be healed of their diseases. They had heard of His miraculous power and they wanted to be well. Most people today desire the same thing when it comes to following our Lord Jesus Christ. They first desire to have their physical needs met before they consider having Christ meet their spiritual needs. The problem is that this physical world won’t last and our physical bodies won’t either. People need to be spiritually healed by surrendering to Christ as Lord, for our souls will last forever; if the soul is not healed through Christ our Lord, then that is the greatest loss of all. We must continually lead others to know and follow Him so that the everlasting miracle takes place.
Challenge & Application
We know people need spiritual healing, so, what are you currently doing to lead others to know and follow Christ?
How are you living as an example of how to know and follow Christ so others can see Christ’s work in and through you?
