Day 7

Scripture to Read: Luke 20:9-18

As we close out this week’s devotions, there is no doubt that God has taught us a lot from His Word. The last thing we find today is Jesus’s challenge in Luke 20:17-18, “But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘Then what is this statement that has been written: ‘A stone which the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone’? 18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.’” Jesus is quoting directly from Psalms 118:22, which the chief priests, scribes, and elders would have known very well. As we examine what Jesus said in verse 18, we know that Christ is the chief cornerstone. God had Peter share this again in 1 Peter 2:4-9. Therefore everyone who humbles themselves and falls on our Lord Jesus Christ, casting themselves upon His mercy, grace, love, and forgiveness, find His power and presence to break the bondage of sin to pieces and find true freedom through Christ. But those who walk in arrogance and pride will one day be crushed by God’s judgment through our Lord Jesus Christ (Daniel 2:34-35 and Revelation 6:12-17). Christ, as the chief cornerstone, is either the solid foundation on which we stand or the crushing force of His judgment for refusing His incredible gift of love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness. We who know Him must share Him with those who do not so that they may stand on the solid foundation of the chief cornerstone.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about Christ as the chief cornerstone? 2. How are you daily humbling yourself before the Lord and experiencing the freedom from the power of sin?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Our focus this week is on the Parable of the Vine-growers. As we read through Luke 20, we find that the chief priests, scribes, and elders continued to confront Jesus. What’s so incredible is that these so-called religious leaders’ hearts were so dark from their sin that they totally missed the One, True Messiah. Jesus, knowing their hear...

Day 2

Read through Luke 20:9-18 again. Today let’s consider all the ways God speaks to us and through us. Just as God used Moses, the prophets, the judges, the apostles, and many others to write and proclaim His Word, today God uses us, His children, to proclaim Him and His Word. God speaks to us daily as we read, study, and memorize His Word. God ...

Day 3

God the Father is THE Authority over everything. God rules and reigns over all creation. It’s hard for us to understand that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit are Three, but they are One. Jesus’s authority was being questioned by the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders in Luke 20:1-8. Jesus has been given all authority by...

Day 4

As Jesus shared the Parable of the Vine-growers, we read that each slave, sent by the man who owned the vineyard, was beaten by the vine-growers and sent away empty handed. Of course, we also read that the man finally sends his beloved son, thinking the vine-growers will show his son the respect he deserves. The vine-growers, in their greedin...

Day 5

As we read Luke 20, we see in verse 16 that the owner of the vineyard puts the vine-growers to death because they killed his beloved son. The owner then gave his vineyard to other vine-growers. We know God is love, but God is also just, and God holds everyone accountable for their actions. We don’t like to think about God being just; we only ...

Day 6

God the Father has given us His Word to guide us, feed us, encourage us, challenge us, mold us, transform us, and so much more. God’s Truth, as God tells us in Hebrews 4:12, “is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the ...
